Product Information
As the successor to the original GBA, Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP offers numerous improvements over the initial model. In addition to a more compact size and a folding design that protects the screen, this pink model has a very bright backlit screen. The Game Boy Advance SP is built around a 32-bit ARM7TDMI with embedded memory of 32 KB plus 96 KB VRAM, providing additional information processing power over the original GBA. This processor also has the advantage of consuming even less power, enabling the system to run longer with less energy. A 7-bit Zilog Z80 co-processor allows backward compatibility with original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. Pixel resolution of 240 by 160 is retained from the original GBA, and the system is now capable of displaying up to 32,768 colors with its 15-bit RGB color output. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery for up to six hours of continuous play, and the battery's charger doubles as an AC adapter for the unit. In addition, the clamshell design helps prevent damage to the unit when placed in a pocket or purse. Since the game slot has been moved to the front, the games are easier to insert and remove. Even though all of the hardware is new, most GameBoy accessories still work with the unit, and all the titles from all the earlier systems function perfectly. Nintendo chose the pink exterior to emphasize how colorful the SP is and how well the colors are displayed. Since it can play all of the old games, this means it enables various color options for original monochrome Gameboy games. The small form factor of the Advance SP makes it a portable ever produced by Nintendo, and when you factor in the backward compatibility, it gives it an effective library of over 2,000 games, more than any other Nintendo console. Like its predecessor, it can also serve as an extra controller and display for the Nintendo Gamecube, enabling both consoles to work together on individual titles.
