However, most cables like this use the same coloured wire for a particular pin in the cable, ideally following the resistor colour code. The cable strand connected to pin 1 would be brown, to pin 2 red etc. The cables supplied (9 way) use successive groups of 9 wires from a flat cable with colours repeating every 10 strands. As a result most cables use different coloured strands for a particular pin. Makes hook up more difficult.
