    Synopsis
It is 1789, and three young provincials have come to Paris to make their way. Georges-Jacques Danton, an ambitious young lawyer, is energetic, pragmatic, debt-ridden--and hugely but erotically ugly. Maximilien Robespierre, also a lawyer, is slight, diligent, and terrified of violence. His dearest friend, Camille Desmoulins, is a conspirator and pamphleteer of genius. A charming gadfly, erratic and untrustworthy, bisexual and beautiful, Camille is obsessed by one woman and engaged to marry another, her daughter. In the swells of revolution, they each taste the addictive delights of power, and the price that must be paid for it., Set during the French Revolution, this "riveting historical novel" ("The New Yorker") is the story of three young provincials who together helped destroy a way of life and, in the process, destroyed themselves.

The item arrived two or three days early, complete with a printed receipt (not all sellers provide those). The condition of the item was better than described. Despite the age of the book, the pages had not yellowed (like some others in my collection). The value of the book itself was quite nice, as anything below retail price, for out-of-print volumes, is considered a bargain. The quality of the book is excellent. No writing or tears of any kind. This seller clearly knows how to preserve books!
